INFLUENCING CHANGE - ROLE OF AN MBA IN BUILDING AN INCLUSIVE SOCIETY

Before we discuss about the role of an MBA towards society we must first understand what an MBA is?? MBA in a common parlance means Master of Business Administration, but as far as the holistic view is concerned MBA also means Managing & Balancing Activities, Most Basic Awareness, and Master in Bringing Awareness etc.

In India there are many institutions which impart the education of MBA. The names of top rated MBA institutions are IIM’S, XLRI, JBIMS, XIMB, ISB, IMT Ghaziabad, MDI, IIFT, SIBM Pune, IBS Hyderabad etc. All the institutions have one thing in common i.e. to make the students aware about what is going in the real world scenario. For this purpose the method of case studies is being designed in every MBA institute which makes student know the realms of the society and Business world at large. There are various subjects which impart various educations in an individual studying in MBA College. Subjects like Statistics, Accounts and Financial management teaches an individual to be efficient with numbers, Organizational Behavior & Human Resource Management teaches the decorum to be maintained in the organization, Operations Management teaches how the business works and the logistics in the business, Marketing teaches how to make people aware about the product/service and create a brand image in the minds of people, IT subjects teaches us to be efficient with computer knowledge as the knowledge of computers is must in today’s world, Legal aspects of Business environment as it is also necessary to know the legal world. Not only this, also there are subject related to Business Ethics and Corporate Governance which imbibe the value system, ethics and worth of Corporate Social Responsibility in an individual.

Inclusive Society

The society where no one feels to be neglected and everyone enjoys the equal right on everything, where there is no fights or battles on the name of caste/creed/religion, where the feeling of brotherhood/friendship is inculcated, where the society is free from evils of corruption, terror etc.  is the society which can be called as Inclusive Society.

Role of MBA for Inclusive society

Whenever any MBA is asked that what do you want to do next in the life?? Everyone has one answer “Job which gives us the best suitable salary” and after spending so many years in the job many individual feels that “why to do something new as there is least surety and loads of risk involved in it”. Is this what is being expected from MBA of a top rated college?? The answer is Absolutely No.

The level of awareness which an MBA can bring to the society is an edge in comparison to what others can do. MBA’s are the persons with Confidence, Managerial Skills, Fabulous Communication skills, Intellect, Knowledge and what not. Doing JOB for the whole life and not indulging in the work for the society makes any individual feel that JOB is nothing but JUST OVER BURDEN which is burdening the life. There had been many MBA’s who had been successful in doing some fruitful work for the society.  The principle of POSDCORB which is being taught in every MBA college is useful for the betterment of society. POSDCORB means

P – PLANNING

O – ORGANIZING

S – STAFFING

D – DIRECTING

CO – COORDINATING

R – REPORTING

B – BUDGETING.

An MBA can Plan the work which is to be done, then Organize the work that how it is to be done, Staffing involves different persons who can be helpful in different ways, Directing involves the specific direction to be given towards the work, Coordinating with the team members, then Reporting the work which is being done at whole and then Budgeting of the new assignment to be done. If these principles are applied to the society then the principles such as Staffing, Coordinating etc. can help to create the environment of inclusiveness in the minds of the people

Examples of MBA graduates who worked for the betterment of society

One of the example of this is an ex ISB student Tanushree Jana who was successful in bringing 200 farmers out of the poverty line by introducing the drip irrigation in some areas of Karnataka by her social venture. This way she had been the savior of life of 200 farmers which made her win the award by Proctor and Gamble.

Vikram Akula the founder of SKS Microfinance is also an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad,  established a microfinance institution which is providing loans to the farmers at very low rate of interest. This way he also has also given a ray of hope to the farmers.

Chetan Bhagat a well-known writer of many books also writes many articles about the society both in English as well as in Hindi newspapers is a post graduate from IIM Ahmedabad. He makes everyone aware about the political system of the country and also gives the solutions that what should be done in order to eradicate the problems prevailing in the country at large.

Chhavi Rajawat an MBA from Balaji Institute of Modern Management could have also gone for job like what others have done, but she choose her own way to become Sarpanch of Soda village nearby Jaipur, Rajasthan and even big newspapers like Times of India  has credited her to be the changing face of rural Rajasthan. She sets as a big example of women empowerment in the society.

Sanjeev Beekchandani  an ex IIM Ahmedabad student who has a big hand in giving jobs to many people starting from fresher’s to experienced persons through his well-known site Naukari.com.

The above stated are the persons who are examples of those who have done/are doing for the society at large with their skills acquired during their tenure of MBA. If every MBA start thinking like these persons and develop ideas for the betterment of society then surely that dream which Gandhiji & Bhagat Singh had looked for India will come true and education of MBA would be of a worth.
